Where my home is there is a lot of trees and they shade my herb garden, Does that cause the herbs to not grow right?

The answer to your question depends on which herbs you are growing. Different herbs will tolerate different amounts of shade and a few, such as sweet woodruff and pulmonaria, prefer it. Many of the culinary herbs such as oregano, thyme, sage, parsley, tarragon, chives and mint will tolerate some shade. They may not be as stongly flavored as they would be in full sun, and they may be a bit taller and larger leafed, but they will grow.
