You might check carefully for slugs because they will devour the early leaves and leave bare stems behind. They work at night so you will only find tell-tale shimmery slug slime trails near the plants. To control them, hand pick them at night or sprinkle diatomaceous earth on the soil around the plants or hand pick them at night with a flashlight. You could also trap them with beer-baited traps. In my experience, a combination of hand picking and the DE works fairly quickly in a limited area. In the meantime, there is time to replant the beans!
