I would like to raise the bed of my strawberry patch. When is the best time to lift the strawberries and how should they be stored until the bed is lifted?

Rather than lift and replant, it might be better to transplant the earliest and best of the new runners to a newly prepared raised bed. This will give you vigorous new plants and freshly prepared soil together with the benefits of the raised bed. It is a good idea to rotate your strawberry plantings, so moving to a new location makes even more sense. Identify and mark the best runners, then move them in late summer so that they become well established before the cold weather sets in. Alternatively, purchase new certified plants to be assured of starting out with good healthy plants.
