In place of grass, we have spread hemlock mulch throughout our entire yard....No mowing!!!

We have noticed over the past two years a small weed that resembles a mimi pine tree growing. The more you pull the more they grow!! We have been told they are called bamboo but can find no reference in garden books. Please help us find a solution to this pesty weed as it continues to multiply.

If the weed has a single stem, the stem has sections like bamboo, and the foilage looks like pine tree needles, I suspect your weed is Equisetum, also called horsetail. These weeds sprout from underground rhizomes and are difficult to control because of their depth in the soil. The best course of action is to keep cutting down the sprouts as they appear. Eventually the roots and rhizomes will run out of energy to produce new sprouts.
