I transplanted red, green, and yellow peppers from a local nursery. The plants look reasonably healthy, though there hasn't been too much growth in the past month. But recently I noticed that there is a blackening around all of the joints of the plants. My dad says it is normal--please advise.

Yup, your dad's right, it's just the normal coloring. If you begin to see water-soaked or sunken spots, or see the plants beginning to decline, then I'd start to be concerned. Otherwise, be patient and look forward to some wonderful peppers!
