My cactus produced a flower from an asparagus-like shoot. The flower has now faded and the stem is shrivelling back to the body of the plant. It could easily be plucked off, but I don't know if cacti should be "deadheaded." So, should I remove the faded bloom or just leave it alone?

It's up to you. Some cactus flowers will produce a seed pod, but those long-stemmed ones usually wither and fall off on their own. Whether you deadhead or not won't affect the health of your cactus. Thanks for writing.
