Pyracantha is subject to some of the same diseases that affect apples, so the browning may be a sign of one of those. You might want to consult with your county extension (566-0673 or 328-4800) to identify the cause of the browning and determine if it can be treated by either a spray program now or quite possibly by a preventive one beginning during the winter and/or spring, since many of the problems need to be treated then rather than when the actually appear on the foliage. In the meantime, remove and destroy the affected leaves and do a very thorough clean up in the fall to try to limit the source of reinfection for next year.
