I have a decorative plum tree. Is there anything I can do with this fruit? I have, in the past, made jelly with fruit from flowering crabapple trees. Can I make jelly from the fruit of the decorative plum tree?

Generally, ornamental varieties of fruit trees have been bred for things other than fruit flavor and yield--leaf color, size and shape of plant, etc.--so the fruits may not be very large or tasty. However, sometimes, because the fruit has strong flavor, with plenty of added sweetener, they make great jelly! I'd go ahead and give it a try. Just be sure the tree hasn't been sprayed with pesticides intended for ornamentals only, because if so the fruits may not be edible.
