all of a sudden the leaves on my purple sand cherry are turning brown and dying, falling to the ground. I've noticed Japaneese Beetles in my yard. Could this be the problem or is it something else?

Japanese beetles will munch on the leaves of the purple sand cherry, but leaves that turn black and fall would more likely indicate a disease of some kind, possibly a result of the damp weather we have had. You might want to take a sample of a partially affected leaf (still on the tree) to your county extension (921-8803) for a more specific diagnosis and suggested remedy, if any.
