The new leaves on our bing cherry trees have started to die, turn brown and fall off the branches. I do make sure they get at least an inch of water a week and fertilize the every 3 weeks. Any suggestions on how to reverse this condition. No evidence of bugs or other problems.

There's a disease called brown rot that commonly affects cherry trees, but the leaves typically wilt, turn brown, and remain on the branches. If the leaves are falling off, it may just be from environmental stress. You might want to take a sample of the problem to your local Cooperative Extension office or Master Gardener Clinic for positive identification of the problem. Phone (425) 338-2400.
