Can I plant the dry seeds to grow tomatoes?
|Tomato seeds can be saved and planted, however in some varieties the resulting seedlings will not be of the same quality as the parent plants. To save the seeds, select the best fruit from the best plants, and allow them to ripen completely on the vine. Pick them, scrape out the seeds and pulp and put it in a jar with water to cover. Stir it a couple of times a day and allow it to ferment. Eventually the pulp rises and the seeds settle. Pour off the pulp, rinse the seeds clean, and then spread them out to dry on a paper towel or screen. When thoroughly dry, label and store the seeds in a closed jar or zipper plastic bag in the refrigerator until it is time to plant them.|
