| I am looking for a bush that was in my Grandparents home in Uniontown, PA in 1940-1950. It is also in my aunts yard now but she doesn't know the name of it. It is about 4-5 ft tall with green leaves and pink or red flowers. Later a hard shell pod came on it and the pod was very aromatic, possibly a spicy smell. Do you know of such a bush, is it still available, and will it grow in Oregon? |
| I'll bet the plant is Calycanthus floridus, or Carolina Allspice. This is a deciduous shrub with glossy, dark green leaves. It flowers May-July and the flowers have a strawberry-like fragrance. The blooms are followed by brownish, pear-shaped capsules that are fragrant when crushed.
