For a number of years I have grown geraniums (Pelargoniums) from seed. I start them under growlights in early January. I have always had success in germination, and they grow fine, but the plants do not bush out. Instead they have one quite thick stem. Eventually when planted out in the garden they do bush out, but it seems to take a long time. I always put them into a cold frame to harden them off. Would you advise pinching out the tops to promote bushier growth? |
Yes, it is a good idea to pinch geraniums perodically to stimulate branching and dense, bushy growth. You can make the first pinch when the plants are about three to four inches tall. |
