| I have a wisteria tree in my yard that I planted two and a half years ago and is doing really well except for one problem it is falling over , can I dig around it to straighten it out or should I should I just stake it with a heavy stake it is already about 2 1/2 inches wide at least. it is doing super and was beautiful this past season but don't want to lose it. |
| Wisteria tends to have a very extensive root system so it might be quite difficult to haul it upright by sheer force. Since it is a new plant you really don't want to disturb the roots either. The tree form of wisteria does need to be staked to keep it upright. If not staked, it will try to scramble along the ground. You could insert a very heavy duty stake in the ground near it and tie it in, training the new growth back into a more vertical position. Make sure to use an extremely heavy duty stake -- this vine has a lot of strength to it and is also quite heavy once it has some size. |
