I live in southern NJ and just replanted a fig tree which I had planted in a pot and kept inside. It is now outside and the leaves are falling off. I put a little cow manure in some topsoil and mixed it together and I water it everyday. What am I doing wrong? Is there anything else I could do? |
It sounds like your tree is suffering transplant shock combined with suffering from the abrupt change from inside conditions to the outdoors. Be careful not to over water it, as this can also cause a plant to drop its leaves. The soil should be moist but not sopping wet. At this point, I would suggest moving the plant to a location in gentle light, where it would receive early morning sun only, and then gradually over a period of weeks move it to a progessively sunnier location because the leaves need time to adapt to the stronger out door sun. |
