| Although my Early Girl tomatoes are red on the outside and appear to be fully ripe, the meat inside near the stem end is whitish in color and do not have a ripe tomato taste. They remind me of those tasteless grocery store tomatoes. Our weather has not been harsh and I have been deep watering once a week. What's up? |
| A few things come to mind. Stink bugs and some white flies feeding on developing fruits can cause this uneven ripening to occur. Check for these pests early in the season once fruits have set and spray with pyrethrum to kill them. Potassium deficiency can lead to this problem as well. Have your soil tested to make sure there are adequate quantities available to your plants. Finally, uneven moisture in the soil may have prevented the plants from absorbing enough of the nutrient. Mulch the plants well and keep them well watered to prevent moisture fluctuation. Hope you have a better crop later in the season! |
