Congratulations on your new crops! Harvest broccoli by cutting the main head when the flower buds are still clustered together with no sign of blossoming. Even if the head is small, cut it because when the yellow flowers appear, the flavor becomes bitter. If you leave a few inches of the main stem on the plant, many varieties will grow side branches that produce more tiny heads to harvest.

Harvest cabbage when the heads are firm when squeezed. By squeezing throughout the growing season, you'll learn the difference. Cut the head from the plant's base with a sharp knife. If you harvest early maturing varieties in summer, they can also grow smaller side heads on the plant, which you cut off in the same manner. Enjoy your harvest!
