The "Balboa" type of lisianthus are grown as annuals, meaning they need to be replanted each spring. They grow best in full sun and a fertile, well drained soil. Lisianthus performs better in the garden if set out as plants, but it may also set seed. The resulting plants may not match the hybrid parent, however. It will also take a long time to come into bloom due to its late start each year.
