We have grown some great straight eight cucumber plants. In the past two weeks we have noticed that the leaves are starting to turn yellow then brown and are becoming brittle. Is this condition because of too much rain?? or Is this the time of year for the plant to start dying?? We have not seen any evidence of the cucumber beatles.

It is possible the plants have been attacked by a foliar problem due to the excess humidity and rain we have been having. Many commerical growers are reporting a variety of problems. You might want to consult with your county extension as to what has affected your plants, although it is a bit late in the season -- It is also possible that the plants have pretty much exhausted themselves, too. Do be sure to rotate your plantings next year and do a thorough clean up of the affected plants and any debris from them both as it occurs and this fall. This should reduce the chance of reinfection if it is an infection.
