l live in Upstate ny, and we have been getting a lot of rain along with sun. l started growning Beefstake tomatoes a few months ago that i bought already started. They have been doing great up until just recentely,there are a whole lot of them on all 4 threes i have on my porch outside.But as soon as they start getting big and ready to turn yellowish orange to red but the bigger ones all have cracks on the top of them? like 4 slits from the stem about 1/2 an inch long? l dont understand why this is happening?Can you please help me?l would like for all the other tomatoes that are still green and a little bigger then a plum not to get these cracks on top? |
| Cracks are usually caused when the interior of the tomato swells faster than the skin can grow and uneven watering can cause this. You might want to look into crack resistant varieties such as Celebrity or Burpee's Big Girl. In the meantime, try to keep the soil evenly moist. |
