Lawn food has more nitrogen in it than other fertilizer types, but it won't harm flowers or other plants. The 3 numbers on the fertilizer package denote the percentage of nitrogen(N), phosphorous(P) and potassium(K) contained in the package. Nitrogen promotes green growth, phosphorous encourages healthy stems and flowers, and potassium works with N and P for overall plant health and root development. Lawn fertilizer generally has more N than P or K.
