|I have a new ampelopsis "elegans" vine. I planted it in full sun. I am in Zone 5. It is doing well. What should I do with it this fall/winter. Should I cut it back to the ground like my Paniculata Clemetis?. The clematis is a vigorous grower and comes back every year to 10-12 ft. tall. Someone told me to do the same with Ampelopsis, but I don't know. Advise please.

|Ampelopsis is a rampant grower that needs strong support. Because of its vigorous growth habit it can be pruned back radically without harming the plant. Don't do anything this fall, but prune it back in the spring once growth begins again. At that time you can remove any dead or damaged vines and head back some vines to encourage thicker growth.
