|My two burning bushes are at least 10 years old and I have kept them pretty compact. They are vigorous growers, but they do not turn deep red in the fall like so many others in my neighborhood ? they only get a little pinkish-green. Should I be adding something to the soil to get the bright red I want?
|In my experience, rather than reflecting soil conditions, the fall coloring of burning bush (Euonymous alatus) is most pronounced in full sun situations. Partial shade can reduce it to a pink cast rather than that fiery red. Color can also be affected somewhat by drought. Also, there can be some color variation from plant to plant if they were grown from seed rather than from cuttings taken from plants selected on the basis of superior fall color.
