Flower Beds - Knowledgebase Question

Flower Bed is constructed with landscape timber two timbers high.Using Earthgro top soil. I was wanting to completly fill with no other soil. Is this o.k to do. The bed is fairly large and I lined it with black plastic sheeting to prevent growth of weeds, etc.

Since I am not familiar with Earthgro soil, I would suggest you run some basic soil tests on it and see how it measures up in terms of fertility, texture, and ability to hold both water and air. Your county extension should be able to help you with the tests and interpreting the results; to some extent the answer will depend on what type(s) of plants you intend to grow. It is also worth keeping in mind that the soil will settle and that it is important to "feed" your soil, especially in a raised bed, on an ongoing basis by regular additions of organic matter. Finally, make sure that the bottom of the raised bed will allow any excess water to drain out.
