Unfortunately, tomatoes are subject to a number of blights, including alternaria and septoria, some of which are soil borne and some that may simply blow in on the wind. The best controls for blights are good cultural practices. Careful crop rotation, careful fall garden clean up, and starting with healthy plants are all important steps. Plants that are otherwise healthy and unstressed will also be less susceptible to problems.
