In cold winter areas, portulacas are considered as annuals. They are longer lived in warmer climates, but they are sun lovers. Their need for bright light makes it difficult to overwinter them successfully indoors. If you want to try, set it in the brightest window you have, do not fertilize it, and water sparingly while it slows its growth during the shorter days of winter. In spring, when it begins to grow again, resume fertilizing and water slighly more.
