|I have two grafted "Fuyu" persimmon trees growing side by side in my yard. A neighbor one street over has a "Hachiya" persimmon tree which I believe is cross pollinating my trees. "Fuyu" persimmons are supposed to be seedless. Is there anything I can do or use to prevent seed formation?
|Before your trees bloom cover them with a fine net so bees wont be able to pollinate your trees, once they set fruit you can remove the nets.
|Many persimmon cultivars are parthenocarpic (setting seedless fruit without pollination). When plants not needing pollination are pollinated, they will produce fruits with seeds, which may be larger and have a different flavor and texture than do their seedless counterparts. I'm not aware of any way to keep your trees from being pollinated by your neighbor's trees. Wish I could offer more positive information!
