Can you please recommend an appropriate lavender for me, if one exists? I am in zone 4. It will be used as a border to our driveway so I don't want a tall growing one that will droop over into the driveway. It will be in full sun. Is lavender an annual or perennial? Is it considered a shrub, plant or flower? Will I need to purchase seeds or plants and where do I get them? Do you sell them? |
Lavender is an herbacious perennial, but it will probably act as an annual in your cold climate, not surviving the tough winters. (It is native to the Mediterranean area.) Burpee sells both seeds and plants of the variety 'Lavender Lady,' which is compact (8-12 inches), hardier than most lavenders, and an All-America selection. It will be an annual in zones colder than zone 5. It blooms the first year. If you use seeds, you may want to start them indoors 8-10 weeks before transplanting outside. Good luck! |
