I am new to vegetable gardening and will try my hand at it this spring. My plot is small (4x4). What do you suggest would be a good variety of veggies and herbs for a "kitchen" garden in the northeast? Thank you.

You can grow many plants in your garden, so I would suggest growing some that you like to eat. A cherry tomato, some early greens such as lettuce and spinach, peas, perhaps some basil and parsley, and a handfull of bush beans to folow the early greens might make a nice combination. If you can make a trellis you might also try a cucumber or two. In your small plot you might want to consider using the square foot method so that you can grow as much as possible in the space. The book "Square Foot Gardening" by Mel Bartholomew is a gardening classic and it includes basic gardening information for nearly every vegetable as well. Enjoy your garden!
