When should azaleas be pruned, and how much?

Azaleas should be pruned immediately after flowering, to allow new shoots and flower buds to develop over the summer months. If your plant is very overgrown, plan on taking 2-3 years to reduce its size. If you just want to tidy it up a bit, you can take about 1/3 of the growth off without harming the plant.
