Is there something that you can add to the soil, while seeds are still in the ground, to help certain fruits and vegtables grow bigger? |
After your seedlings sprout you can mulch the soil around them with organic matter (such as compost). As the compost continues to decompose it will release nutrients into the soil. At the end of the season, dig in the remaining mulch to help loosen the soil. Next year, prior to planting, spread 2"-3" of organic matter over the top and dig it in to a depth of 6"-8". If you keep adding organic matter, both as a mulch and as a soil amendment, you eventually build wonderfully loamy soil. |
