|I live in southern Ohio and it is mid Feb. and my daffodils are popping through the ground, I know it is too early, but can they still be save or are they lost for this year?|
|They shold be fine as long as the buds are still underground. These bulbs are all made to withstand cold weather -- and will often bloom when there are still traces of snow! If it makes you feel better, you can layer some fluffy mulch such as straw or evergreen boughs over top of them, but it shouldn't really be necessary. If you do this, make sure to remove them early in the spring so the bulbs can come up naturally. You could also layer several inches of mulch such as shredded bark over the area being careful not to cover the emerging foliage. This is easier done in the fall so that the bulbs simply come up through it the following spring. Enjoy your bulbs!
