Syringa vulgaris is the Latin name for common lilac and the President Grevy portion is the specific variety of lilac. It is a hardy shrub. If you ordered the plant by mail, plant it according to the instructions you receive with it. If you purchased the plant locally and it has been outside and is dormant, you can plant it now. If you purchased the plant locally and it has been indoors or in a greenhouse and thus has leafed out, you can set it outside on mild days and nights in a sunny, sheltered spot out of the wind, but bring it indoors to a cool location when cold weather threatens. (For example, an unheated garage should probably be ok, the temperature needs to be above freezing.)Once the weather has settled and freezing temperatures no longer threaten, plant it.
