I have a large night-blooming jasmine plant (5' tall) in a container. How and when should I prune it? |
There really isn't a special way to prune night-bllooming jasmine (Cestrum nocturnum). I would suggest you trim it to fit your space needs or aesthetic preferences. You can prune it at the end of winter (being cold tender, it needs to be brought in to a protected location during winter) and as needed during the growing season. I would not prune it a lot at any one time, just some minor work here and there. You may want to cut back long shoots to near the soil line or to where they join another side shoot to reduce the height of the bush. However, 5 feet is not tall for this plant. The size of the container may be the thing that most controls the plant's size. Thanks for the question. Please feel free to stop in again with another question any time we can help! |
