I received some hyacinths and mixed bulbs for a gift. They are just popping up out of the soil, but I would like to know if, after flowering, they can be kept for planting outdoors this Fall. If so, how do I store them and when do I plant? |
After the bulbs bloom, trim off the flower stems and encourage the foliage to grow. Set the pot in a bright location and fertilize with a water soluble fertilizer according tot he label isntructions. If possible, in my experience, it is better to acclimate them over a week or so and then plant them outdoors in the spring. Otherwise, allow the foliage to grow and then fade naturally, shake off the soil, store in a dry location for the summer and then plant next fall. |
