This season I want to grow broccoli raab. Should I starting the seeds indoors for transplanting outdoors later, or sow of the tiny seeds directly in my garden? |
Broccoli Raab is a fast-growing plant (40 days to maturity) and is quite tolerant of cool soil conditions. Plants can bolt when soil and air temperatures are too warm, hence the suggestion that seed be planted in spring or fall, when weather is reliably cool. Sow your seeds outdoors as soon as soil can be worked in the spring. Try sowing successive crops every two weeks for a longer harvest of broccoli raab during the cooler spring weather. |
