I don't know much about planting tulips, but i want to redo my garden and was wondering if it was too late to plant tulips in february in northern Illinois. if it is, is there any other type of flower that is good for planting in late winter-early spring?

The spring blooming bulbs need to be planbtd in the fall so they can go through the required chilling and rooting period before they can bloom in the spring, so it is really too late for planting them.

You might find pansies and violas for sale for very early spring planting. Sweet alyssum, sweet peas and primroses can also be planted out very early, well before the last frost.

Many hardy perennials can be planted in early spring, as soon as they become available. Most annuals however must be planted after the last expected spring frost date because they can't withstand cold temperatures.

I hope this gives you some ideas.
