I have never had a pink polka dot plant live in my house much less bloom. I wanted to know what makes them bloom and if it is something that is unusual or pretty common.

Hypoestes phyllostachya blooms fairly easily, but the flowers are insignificant, so don't feel bad! It prefers bright to medium light, moderately moist soil and humidity (set the pot up on a saucer filled with pebbles and a shallow layer of water), and normal to cool temperatures. Use an all-purpose houseplant fertilizer and pinch back the plant to make it bushier.
