|This is a cool moist period (like winter) during which seeds are conditioned for germination. Gardeners may mimic this for seeds that require it by placing seeds inside a closed container or plastic bag with some barely damp soilless mix and then placing the container in the refrigerator for the required amount of time. Open the bag occasionally to allow for some air exchange and to look for signs that the seeds are swelling and ready to germinate.
