Selected Impatiens in pots and window boxes wilt and die. Others in same container OK. This is a recent problem - 3 years or so- have been growing impatiens from seed over 30 years with no problems. |
Unfortunately, there are some fungus, wilts and soil borne diseases that can affect impatiens, and it sounds like that is what has happened. The incidence seems to go up in wet years, too. In general it is not a good idea to plant the same thing in one place year in and year out, so next year you might try planting something else there. You might also add copious amounts of compost and/or other types of organic matter to the soil to try to make the soil as healthy as possible. In the meantime, remove and clean up debris from any infected plants as soon as you see the problem occurring. I'm sorry about your impatiens. |
