Cut Daffodils Deadly To Other Flowers? - Knowledgebase Question

I was told by a florist that you cannot put cut daffodils in a vase of water with any other flowers or the other flowers will die. Though I usually like to mass just daffodils in a vase, I think I have combined them with other spring flowers with no problem. Any truth to this?

A quick search of literature geared for professional florists and industry handling of commercial cut flowers indicates that the daffodil stems exude a substance harmful to other cut flowers and so they should be segregated. I suspect that the reason why it is harmful is due to the sort of sticky latex-like oozy liquid or sap that comes out of the stems may clog the vascular tissue of the other flower stems in the vase when they absorb it along with the water, but I did not find that specifically substantiated anywhere during my quick search. I too believe I have mixed daffodils with other flowers in the vase, but to be honest I could not tell you for certain which ones! Maybe some experimentation is in order.
