The suniest spot on my property is the cleared leaching field for my septic system. I would like to start a berry patch on this area (rasp, blue, and black). Is there any reason why not? |
Since the leach field in fact handles sewage, it is not recommended to plant food plants over it. It is also not recommended to plant deep rooted plants there as they may wend their way into the pipes or clog the field, and it is not recommended to water plants on top of the leach field as this would increase the load on the drainage in that area. I'm sorry I can't be more encouraging. You might also want to check with your UMASS extension for their views on planting over leach fields. |
