My 4th grader is doing her first science project. It is an experiement to see if microwaving bean seeds effects the growth. We are trying to gather some interesting research on this. Would you be able to give us any information on this subject. She planted beans in egg carton. She microwaved bean seeds for 25seconds and planted them. Then she planted seeds that were not microwaved. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance for any info you can provide us.
Respectfully,
Mary Beth and Caitlin Long

Excess heat can certainly kill seeds, and microwaving could also cause them to be so overly dry that they will no longer germinate. Here is a brief summary of one study on how microwaves may be applicable to the benefit of seeds.

If you use a search engine such as google and use microwave seeds as the search terms, you will find many recipes as well as some scientific references. Good luck with the project.
