Starting pansies from seed - plants look spindly

Usually, the reason for spindly plants is lack of light. Most gardeners find it necessary to use supplemental light when starting seeds indoors. One "warm" bulb and one "cool" bulb in a fluorescent shop light works well. Keep the lights on 16 hours a day and keep the plants just an inch or two below the bulbs. Other possible causes would be too high a temperature (pansies like it cool) or lack of nutrients (use a water soluble fertilizer at a very dilute rate after true leaves appear). I hope this helps you trouble shoot.
