Saltbush is Atriplex. These plants are tolerant of direct seashore conditions or highly alkaline desert soils. They're generally grown for their gray or silvery foliage. Atriplex hymenelytra is Desert Holly, an evergreen plant native to the deserts of Southern California and western Arizona. It's a compact shrub 1-3 feet high. Grows best in the deserts of California and Arizona. Atriplex lentiformus 'breweri' is Brewer Saltbush, and almost evergreen native to the California coast. Grows 5-7 feet high, 6-8 feet wide. Best gardening zones are the California coast and inland to Riverside County. |
