| A few weeks ago I placed a cutting from my pachysandra in water. It has lots of new growth but no roots have developed. Can pachysandra be propagated in water or should I divide the existing plant? If division is the answer, when and how should I do it? |
| Pachysandra is rooted from tip cuttings taken in late spring/early summer when the new growth for the year has finished. Dip cuttings in rooting hormone and stick them in soilless potting mix. As an alternative, you can take divisions by cutting out clumps of the ground cover, roots and all, somewhat like cutting sections of sod. This method works better in my experience in terms of giving faster coverage, but cuttings are better if you need a lot of plants and have the room to keep flats of cuttings going. Make sure to keep the new plants well watered until they become established. |
