I would like to plant some shrubs that flower, are resistant to deer and are drought tolerant. I'll be planting some oleander against a stone wall but need some ideas for some low growing, trailing type of plants to put on top of the wall. I planted ivory and it died. I would like something that is fast growing and doesn't require a lot of maintenance. I'm not a big fan of Juniper. Thanks for any suggestions you can provide

Native plants are usually the least appealing to deer and other wildlife. In your gardening region, you can also consider Anisodontes (cape mallow), Aesculus californica (California buckeye), Calluna vulgaris (Scotch heather), Cistus (rockrose) and Vaccinium (evergreen huckleberry). Trailing plants suitable for a rock wall in a sunny situation include Acacia redolens, Aptenia cordifolia, Convolvulus mauritanicus (ground morning glory), Lampranthus (ice plant) and Thyme. With the above suggestions your should have a colorful and easy-care yard.
