The frankincense pine is Pinus taeda, also commonly called Loblolly pine. The tree is native to the Southeast, growing along river and stream floodplains to uplands on moist, poorly drained soil. It prefers acidic, deep, moist to wet, poorly drained soil. Although it can also tolerate drier soils that drain well. It can also tolerate some shade. It is a fast grower if conditions are to its liking, and can be almost invasive.
