I have a 4.5-ft andromeda with woody stems and no leaves at bottom. Top has good number of leaves. Not very sightly and would like to prune it. Any tips for pruning? Can I "hard-prune" it and leave it with no leaves? Thanks. |
In my experience, this plant may die of shock if hard pruned, although if the alternative is to remove the plant, you could certainly give it a try. Normally these are pruned after they bloom, but with this drastic an approach I would suggest you do it now, very early in the season. Another idea might be to plant some lower growing "facer" shrubs in front of the pieris in order to conceal the bare legs. |
