Could you tell me the best size containers to purchase for trees and shrubs to insure best growth, and what is your opinion of bare roots for shrubs and trees. Are they desirable? |
Bare roots are just fine provided you get them into the ground quickly so roots don't dry out. They are usually a bit cheaper than container plants. As for container size, I go with the smaller sizes. Because transplanting is a shock to the system, and the larger the plant, the greater the shock, research shows that small plants quickly catch up to the larger ones. They're easier to plant also! Unless you have some need for a mature speciman immediately, I'd go with the smaller plants. |
